With energy conservation in mind the Royal Glamorgan is running a C.H.P (Combined Heating and Power) system. Gas powered generators producing a percentage of electricity used by the hospital and the bi product of heat dissipated into the wet heating system, just like a boiler.
At night when all is still and patients are sleeping, the technology is hard at work. A large storage of ice is produced in the form of slush. This is then used in the day for the chilling side of the air conditioning plants and some of the equipment in the hospital, for example, X-Ray scanners and processors.There is a 2nd floor to the building, which is the home, of most of the service plant and is quite a site to see.

The Royal Glamorgan Hospital is one of the latest general hospitals and is packed with state of the art control and enviromental management systems. It has been fully equipped, with modern medical equipment and designed with patient care and comfort in mind. It houses approximately fifty air conditioning plants, an intelligent lighting system and sophisticated building management systems.
